Intel has launched its next-generation processors, the Intel Core Ultra. These are the first set of consumer-segment processors to include a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU), capable of delivering on-device generative AI experience at its “AI Everywhere” launch event . The new processors are part of the 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPUs and were officially launched on December 14, 2023.
The Core Ultra processors are designed to power AI PCs and are equipped with a dedicated NPU that can deliver on-device generative AI experiences. This means that the processor can perform AI tasks without relying on cloud computing, which can lead to faster and more efficient performance .
The Core Ultra processors are built on the Intel 4 process and are expected to offer significant performance improvements over their predecessors, the 13th-gen Raptor Lake chips, while consuming only half the power . The graphics block is expected to deliver double the performance of the Raptor Lake integrated GPU with its new XeLPG integrated graphics core .
The new processors are already being used in laptops from various manufacturers such as Galaxy Book 4 series, Zenbook 14 OLED, ThinkPad X1 Carbon, and more .
Intel has committed to rapidly stepping through five process technologies in four years, and the Core Ultra processors are a significant step in that direction
